The platform has two sides – one you will notice immediately, the other will surprise you after a while. On the one hand it resembles a flying carpet, because you can rock and balance on it – it’s a lot of fun and a fantastic way to develop gross motor skills. On the other hand, the platform is a graphomotor board, thanks to which preparation for learning to write becomes a beautiful adventure – a game of imagination and discovery of the world with all senses. Before a toddler starts to draw rhymes or form the first letters, he needs to develop fine motor skills – learn to operate the hand and fingers. That’s what playing with the platform is for – guiding the finger, stylus or brush over the shapes carved on it, the child exercises precision and prepares the hand for writing. Natural fragrant materials (cloves, cinnamon, aniseed) can be used for play, which will further stimulate other senses – equipped with a brush, the toddler will feel like an archaeologist discovering ancient hieroglyphs. If you additionally incorporate atmospheric music (e.g. oriental and a touch of fairy tale) all senses will be involved in learning to write. This is the essence of multi-sensory
teaching, pioneered by Maria Montessori.
